1842 $1 XF45 PCGS CAC

Virtually every 1842 Seated Dollar entered active circulation, making original, problem-free survivors with untouched surfaces and natural patina increasingly scarce after more than 180 years. With a modest mintage of just 184,618 pieces and an estimated surviving population of only 4,000 examples, the 1842 issue is one of the more desirable early Philadelphia Seated Dollar. This attractive XF PCGS CAC example exhibits pleasing originality throughout, highlighted by smooth silver-gray surfaces. Light, even wear is consistent with careful circulation, and the coin's wholesome, untouched appearance is complemented by attractive natural patina and excellent eye appeal. The most relevant comp is a similarly rare 1846 $1 XF45 PCGS CAC sale for $2,440 09/26 SB. Certified by PCGS and approved by CAC for its superior quality within the grade, this is the type of original early Seated Dollar that has become increasingly in demand in today's marketplace.
