1829 Capped Bust Dime, MS65 JR-6, Small 10C

This pleasing dime exhibits softly lustrous silver-gray and rose centers surrounded by richer shades of russet-gold, violet, and subtle blue along the borders with superbly struck devices. Satiny mint luster remains visible beneath the natural coloration and enlivens both sides, while the remarkably well-preserved surfaces display only minor traces of contact consistent with a MS65 grade. All varieties considered, the 1829 Capped Bust dime is scarce in Gem condition and rare finer. From a mintage of 770,000 pieces, this JR-6 (R.3) has a PCGS Price Guide value of $4,500 and a remarkably limited PCGS variety population of just 2/0. The year 1829 marked the beginning of Andrew Jackson’s presidency and a transformative period in American political and economic history. Each dime die was still individually prepared at the Philadelphia Mint, creating the distinctive die varieties avidly pursued by today’s specialists. Considering the last CAC example sold 6 years ago in 2020 for $3,120 and the last non-CAC PCGS for $3,720 and MS65 non-CAC NGC for $3,800 alongside the CAC Price Guide at $3,900 and PCGS Price Guide at $4,500, establishes a clear upward value trend.
