A First-Year Capped Bust Left Half Eagle with CAC Approval and the Bold, Lustrous Presence of a Mint State Coin.
Introduced during Thomas Jefferson’s presidency, the 1807 half eagle marked the debut of John Reich’s Capped Bust Left design. This borderline Mint State example retains beautiful satiny mint frost and bold luster over warm honey-yellow gold surfaces. Its rich color, originality, and abundant remaining luster give the coin a distinctly Mint State appearance and exceptional overall eye appeal. An estimated surviving population of approximately 675 coins exist in all grades, the 1807 represents an important and highly collectible first-year type. PCGS reports a price-guide value of $16,000. The last AU58 CAC sale realized was over 5 years ago, but more recently a lower grade 1807 $5 AU55 PCGS CAC example brought $16,800 08/25 SB. In fact a similarly rare 1812 $5 AU58 PCGS CAC most recently sold for $18,001 05/26 GC.
