Both the obverse and reverse are enveloped in rich warm orange-gold coloration with delicate olive and faint reddish-gold undertones that have developed naturally over nearly 150 years. The surfaces are remarkably smooth for the grade, while attractive remnants of satiny mint luster remain visible within the protected areas surrounding the legends, stars, date, and devices. It has excellent eye appeal. Only 8,680 examples were produced, with an estimated 135 survivors believed to exist today across all grades, making this one of the key rarities of the Liberty Head Half Eagle series and an essential acquisition for collectors of Carson City gold.
