The attraction of early U.S. coinage, reflecting the origins of the American commerce system, is indisputable and commands significant interest. This date is considerably rarer than the five common dates 1795, 1797, 1799, 1801, & 1803. Looking at extant examples for all dates the 1800 stands out. From a mintage of only 5,999 just 250 are estimated to survive in all grades. Compare this to dates like the 1801 $10 with a mintage 7 times larger at over 44,000 pieces. The PCGS population is only 4 with 6 finer. This is the chance for an astute collector to acquire a high-end type coin. Presenting the sought-after design type from the earliest years of U.S. Mint coinage, this gold coin boasts remarkable Mint State preservation. Both sides are adorned with an attractive, entirely original bright golden-orange color, enveloping the coin, and enriching its visual allure. In hand the coin exhibits captivating reddish-gold hues on each side, heightened by a glowing luster encircling the devices. Last PCGS CAC sold two years ago for $52,800 03/24 ST, which then sold for $57,500 right after privately. This example has no hits or marks like the previously sold ones, we could easily see this in a MS62 holder in the future; but more importantly a normal and more common date example like 1799 $10 or 1801 $10 in AU58 PCGS CAC sells for $36,000-$37,500, considering this is a rare date in higher grade with outstanding color, we cant recommend this undervalued date enough.

Pedigree:

The Long Haul Cabinet

PCGS Cert Verification #49557306

• PCGS Price Guide - $52,500
• PCGS POP - 12/39
• CAC Price Guide - $47,500
• CAC POP - 4/6
• PCGS Coin# - 8563

The 1856 Flying Eagle cent stands among the most historic and universally admired small cents in American numismatics, a landmark transitional issue born from the Mint’s mid-1850s effort to replace the cumbersome large cent as rising copper prices forced experimentation with smaller formats and new alloys. Struck in a very limited quantity primarily for presentation, die testing, and Congressional approval, the issue occupies true “blue-chip” status within the hobby, with enduring demand across every grade tier. The present example is an extraordinary Superb Gem that fully lives up to that reputation, offering icy-smooth, virtually pristine surfaces that immediately convey elite preservation. On the obverse and reverse, the flying eagle is razor sharp and boldly frosted, but the coin posses an attractive rich-red brown hue throughout. Under magnification, the surfaces are remarkably free of distracting marks, with no individually mentionable ticks, lines, or flecks, preserving the kind of absolute cleanliness that defines the finest survivors. The result is a coin of breathtaking technical quality and visual sophistication, unquestionably among the most beautiful Superb Gem Flyers one could hope to encounter. Supported by a PCGS Price Guide of $45,000, a PCGS population of 63 with only 13 finer, and a CAC population of 27 with just 4 finer, this is a top-end example of one of the most important pattern-to-regular-issue transition coins in the entire U.S. cent series. Struck from a tiny mintage of just 425 pieces, the denomination was carefully calibrated to approximate the value of the French 20 Francs, Italian 20 Lire, Spanish 20 Pesetas, and Austrian or Dutch 8 Florins, reflecting America’s growing engagement with global trade. Although the proposal ultimately failed to secure enough Congressional support for regular circulation, the surviving 1879–1880 Stellas remain enduring monuments to that vision, with the Flowing Hair design emerging as the most celebrated and most often encountered of the two major types. This 1879 $4 Flowing Hair Stella is the only obtainable example as the 1880 $4 Flowing Hair Stella has a mintage of 35 and is much rarer. Similarly even the most affordable Coiled Hair Stella would cost atleast $650,000-$850,000 if ever available which it is not, placing this coin at the best position. This exquisite PCGS Proof 64+ Cameo example with CAC approval displays carefully preserved near-Gem surfaces that retain extraordinary technical integrity and visual refinement. Both obverse and reverse have deeply mirrored fields and showcases rich medium-gold surface under rose-gold undertones, while the cameo contrast becomes increasingly appreciable as the coin rotates beneath light, lending the design a sculptural, medallic depth. We have never seen any other stella with this level of toning and is absolutely unique, and we look forward to having a True View added to this coin. The Stella’s legendary status is one of American numismatics’ most beloved “blue-chip” rarities. With an estimated survival of approximately 187 pieces, a PCGS population of just 2 in Proof 64+ Cameo with 37 finer, and a PCGS Price Guide value of $285,000, but none that account for this level of eye appeal and color. No recent comps are known except in 1.5 grade lower at PR63 CAM PCGS CAC for $204,000 11/24 SB whilst PR65 non-cameo PCGS CAC are offered for around $285,000-$295,000 on the market.
