Mintage of the 1883-CC Double Eagle was 59,962 coins, but only 1540 are in existence today in all grades. Graded MS60 by PCGS with CAC certification, this Carson City gold issue is rarer than its $20 counterparts from 1876-CC, 1890-CC, 1884-CC, and 1875-CC. It is available in grades from VF to higher, but survivors in MS60 CAC and higher are extremely scarce. While AU58 PCGS-CAC coins command prices of $9,000-$11,000, the finest known example is only MS63. This example boasts a frosty texture, attractive original yellow-gold and impressive smoothness for the MS60 grade, making it a must-have for gold enthusiasts. With strong CAC bids and demand for this date, we have seen a surge in prices for PQ examples. There is little price difference between AU and low UNC for example AU53 and AU55 CAC most recently have sold for $7,400 and $8,500. This MS60 is a true Uncirculated example and is much nicer than the grade suggests. No CAC MS60 has ever sold for this Carson City Uncirculated Double Eagle.
